Dhaalu Raa

After 20 years of acclaimed work as a key member of zero degree atoll band, Dhaalu Raa is the debut solo album by Ahmed. Building upon the Maldivian instrument Boduberu & the local scales, the songs in the album is unique blend of local textures and contemporary sounds. With 2 years in the Making, the album shines with raw tones, vivid vocal expressions and complex percussions.

Keyodhoo Boduberu

Keyodhoo Boduberu & Thaara album will feature another highlight instrument of the Maldives, the Thaara or commonly know as Udh. A group of local men starting off with a slow mesmerizing chant builds up into dense choir with slow udh drums which eventually cascade to form a rich melody and a fast phased tribal tune.

Odihanu

A different taste of music, a mixture of Dhivehi poetry, unique sounds of Maldives with a mild reggae influence captivates the current state of Maldivian society especially the youth. Songs in the album goes on to describe the lives of wasted young lives on the streets and to other social epidemics such as drugs. Haisham’s poetic imagination and vocal abilities bring a soothing reggae feel to the music.

In this direction the record label is currently in the process of producing a long awaited solo album by the renowned Maldivian musician.

Ahmed. Famous for his mild influence of the 70s & 80s West, Ahmed has written and released numerous singles and has worked for many album. His solo Album, Dhaalu Raa, after two decades of releasing ‘Dhoni’ album is one of the most anticipated records in the country.

Capitalising on its strong connection with local and international music distributors and retailers, Asasi Distribution oversees the systematic and timely distribution of music albums, facilitating artists and producers to focus on their specialty. The division currently has signed with all the major music distributors in the Maldives, including distributors in the tourism industry targeting the ever increasing number of travellers to Maldives every year. In addition, our strong connection with worldwide music distributors such as iTunes and Amazon provides a window for local artists and producers to easily expand the reach of their music to international fans and audiences.

Asasi Records in the Indian Ocean, is the pioneer record label taking up the aim of promoting native music of the Maldive-Islands to the world. Through its name, Asasi, meaning essential in the Dhivehi language, (the language of the Maldives), the record label promotes music as an essential part of life.

Asasi Records is situated in the heart of the country, Male’, the capital city with a rich mix of various lifestyles from around the world. It manages its own recording, marketing and promo units in the capital city giving it direct access to most of the artists. The record label’s own recording studio, Vakaruge, has helped bring many artists given them the rare opportunity to create and record music locally.

Within the Asasi hub, the company manages units to help artist achieve their creative visions. Among these are design and promotion units, marketing services, web and social media management, video production services and other administrative units to manage communication and distribution.
